Epoxy is basically maintenance-free by flooring standards — no grout, no sealing, no waxing. But how you clean it affects how long it looks new.
Weekly
Dust-mop, blow with a leaf blower, or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Sand and grit are what actually scratches a topcoat — get them off the surface before they get walked into a haze pattern.
Monthly
Damp-mop with warm water and a pH-neutral floor cleaner (Simple Green Pro HD or a Sika/Rust-Oleum epoxy cleaner). No vinegar, no bleach, no ammonia, no citrus degreasers — those strip gloss over time.
For spills
Oil, gasoline, brake fluid, and battery acid should be blotted (not smeared) within a day. Epoxy is chemical-resistant, not chemical-proof — long dwell times can etch the topcoat.
Re-topcoat schedule
Residential garages: every 5–7 years. Commercial retail: every 3–5 years. Warehouses: every 2–4 years, or sooner in heavy traffic lanes. A re-topcoat is a light scuff-sand plus a fresh clear layer — a fraction of the cost of a full install.
